Does one photo have the ability to affect change?

"La Jeune Fille a la Fleur"
Marc Riboud
"La Jeune Fille a la Fleur" depicts 17 year old pacifist Jane Rose Kasmir standing opposite a line of soldiers with only a flower. The photo was taken at the Pentagon March in 1967 wherein demonstrators asked for world peace and for the US Army to leave the Pacific. This photo is an iconic illustration of what Allen Ginsberg later coined as the 'Flower Power' movement, an attempt to fight war with peaceful and colorful mobilization. This image was the figurehead behind which many people united and become the emblem for the hippie movement in the 1960s and 1970s.

In my opinion, of course an image can affect change- whether it causes a slight shift in our own thought or inspires a movement behind it. When Anna Wintour's first Vogue cover came out, she changed the rules in fashion photography drastically. Similarly, every time I see a good or intriguing photo my way of thinking about the subject is slightly changed.
